Reading Notes: Epified; Mahabharata Videos, Part D
I think this will be my last reading notes of the semester. It feels bittersweet. I enjoyed reading so many different stories and learning so many new things. Here it goes, one last time.
Draupadi grows up to be a beautiful princess and her father, Drupad, realizes it's time to marry her off. He organizes an event called Swayamvar. At this event, there will be some sort of task that may require skill/strength/intelligence. Once the man has completed the task, he will be an eligible choice for Draupadi. An important thing to note, Draupadi can pick any man from the group of men that have completed the task.
Karna performs, but his lack of title disqualifies him from being chosen. Arjuna and his brothers come out of hiding for this event. Arjuna completes the task and is chosen by Draupadi to be her husband.
Narad say that Draupadi must be married to all the Pandava brothers and they must remain loyal to her and her alone. If they do not maintain this agreement, they will be banished to the forest for 12 years. One night, Arjun hears the cries of a Brahman who was just burglarized. Arjun agrees to help, but all his weapons are in his brothers room and he was with Draupadi. Arjun is not supposed to be near Draupadi during his brothers year with her. He goes in to the room anyway, gets his weapons, and sentences himself to 12 years of exile.
