Introduction to Me
Hi, everyone! My name is is Jasmin and I'm a senior, majoring in Psychology and minoring in Biology. My favorite class that I've taken would probably be anatomy. It was bind-blowing to be able to look at the human body in the ways we did. I held a human heart in my hand! It was an incredible experience that I'll probably talk about for the rest of my life.
This summer was filled with weddings! I went to three, but I think the last one was my favorite. It was for my cousin Elizabeth. Her family lives in New Jersey, so we don't see them much. It was fun to meet a side of the family I don't really get to see. The wedding was in Dallas and it was beautiful. We laughed, danced, and ate SO much. I also found out my uncle's having a baby boy in the fall and I can't wait to kiss his face!!

A little about me: I'm not super exciting. I like to read. If I'm on my phone, I'm most likely scrolling through Buzzfeed articles. I don't really take the quizzes anymore. I'm pretty confident of what flavor of ice cream I am. Some shows that I love are The Office, Stranger Things (can't wait for the next season!!!), This is Us (could talk about this show for hours), and Brooklyn Nine Nine.
Things I've been into recently:
This is my dog friend, Shadow. He turns ten in September and is my dad's favorite child. He loves going on morning walks, eating peanut butter, and barking at strangers. He's currently on a diet, which has been really hard for him because has no concept of overeating. We're working on it.
Things I've been into recently:
- Skincare
- Podcasts (I recommend Serial)
- Spotify (Chill Hits for studying)
- Running (I can now run about 2 miles without curling up and crying)
- Eggs (Sunny-side up)
- YouTube (David Dobrik is my favorite)
- Sparkling Water
- Frozen Yogurt (not great for someone who shouldn't be eating dairy)
I am hoping good things for Shadow and his diet, Jasmin! I can definitely imagine how a dog might love peanut butter... and how that is probably not the best thing for a dog to eat, ha ha. A friend of mine's dog got very fat from eating avocados!
ReplyDeleteAbout weddings: you will see that weddings are a big theme in the epics, starting with the epic wedding of Sita and Rama in the Ramayana. There is a term you will see in some of the reading, swayamvara, which describes the special ritual of the bride-choice that you will see in both the Ramayana and the Mahabharata and in other ancient Indian stories too. If you are interested, you might explore that for the project brainstorming that is coming up later this week!
Or maybe you could even make a Buzzfeed-type quiz to help people figure out which Indian Epic hero or heroine they are! That would be so cool! :-)
Weddings seem to be abundant and often as we get older. I've also been to quite a few this year, I was in one in June, I'm in another in October and I'm a guest in September. One of the best things about weddings is the food and coming together of family, I'm so glad that you were able to meet a side you hadn't really met.
ReplyDeleteAs far as Netflix goes, do you like to watch any foreign netlfix original series shows? I've actually found that those can be better than a lot of other shows on Netflix.
If you're ever looking for a running partner I would be glad to join you (once my doctor and physical therapist has approved me to) so just give me a shout!
Have a good weekend and be safe!
Hey Jasmin,
ReplyDeleteI saw the picture of your dog and immediately had to say, I am jealous. I've always wanted a dog for myself, but it's just a big commitment that I have yet to conquer. Hopefully I am able to graduate on time and fulfill my dreams of owning my very own dog. I enjoy eating Froyo as well! I would recommend you to try "taro". It's very tasty! I will definitely go look at your spotify suggestion, because I am on there basically half the day. Anyways, I hope you have a great rest of the semester!
Hey Jasmin,
ReplyDeleteThat is cool how interested you are in anatomy. I could never see myself doing that our ever holding a heart, but we all just have different interests. Psychology is a very interesting study too. I have always been fascinated with how we all think and what makes us do what we do. We have some dogs back home and sadly we have had to put them on diets to because of too much peanut butter and them not knowing when to stop eating.
Hi Jasmin!
ReplyDeleteWhoa, three weddings! I went to two this summer and though it was a lot, I love the atmosphere and getting to reconnect with family. It sounds like it was a really fun summer, and congratulations on your future cousin and on your extraordinary level of self-awareness when it comes to Buzzfeed quizzes lol. Stranger Things is the best and I only recently started B99 but I love it so much! It’s also incredible that you held a human heart- I can’t imagine how that felt. Best of luck this semester!
Brenna
Jasmin,
ReplyDeleteI love that you are currently interested in skincare! I am a pre-med student and I hope to go into the field of dermatology. I find articles and YouTube videos on the topic to be so fun, informative, and almost relaxing to read/watch. I have to tell you, I am completely obsessed with the brand Origins. It is a bit pricey, but the quality of their products are well worth it, and they last a long time.
Megan, that's so cool! I've always wanted to try Origins, but like you said it's a little pricey. Maybe I'll give it a try!
DeleteHi Jasmin!
ReplyDeleteI literally understand why you enjoyed anatomy so much! It is probably my favorite class also. Now when people point to a random spot and say something like "ow my pancreas!", I can point them to where the pancreas actually is! Going to weddings is always super fun! You get to have a reason to dress up and wear fancy dresses and that is always fun! I too love running! It is a great way to destress and it helps with stamina so you will be running long distance in no time!
Jasmin – when you held the human heart in your hand, did you feel sad because you don’t have one? Just kidding, I think yours is 3x too big.
ReplyDeleteWhat flavor of ice cream are you?
Also, we have the same favorite Youtuber. With every video I watch of his, I am continually amazed at all of his shenanigans. Also, I’m weirdly attracted to Heath and that kind of scares me.
Hi Jasmine! Your introduction is awesome. I low-key wished that I have chosen to take Psychology as my major rather than Microbiology, because that “poop” (PG-13 rated) is hard. It is so cool that you had the opportunity to hold a human heart in your hand! I actually might pass out a little, but I would have to practice dealing with that and blood since I am pursing for my medical career. I hope you have a wonderful semester, Jasmine!
ReplyDeleteHey Jasmin! Your list of things that you're into right now could definitely also double as mine! I absolutely love podcasts and I actually wrote about my favorites ones on my myth and folklore blog if you want to check it out! (http://mythsandlorebyap.blogspot.com/2018/09/famous-last-words-my-favorite-podcasts.html). Because you're interested in the Serial podcast, I would definitely check out number 5 on my list called Wrongful Conviction, as the host sorts out the details that led to someone being incarcerated for a crime that they did not commit. Also, I don't know if it's because I'm Indian and Indian weddings are jut something else, but I absolutely LOVE wedding season. I mostly just go to weddings that are in my family or in my local community, and I absolutely love how weddings bring together two huge groups of people, all to celebrate someone that they love.
ReplyDeleteHey Jasmin! You sound a lot like one of my best friends so I could totally see us getting along. I relate to the struggle of avoiding dairy, but also really loving frozen yogurt. I am lactose intolerant and it has been getting a lot worse in the last year. It is so freaking hard to give up frozen yogurt and cheese though! And let me tell you, non dairy cheese is not cutting it. I have yet to acquire the taste and I desperately miss my grilled cheeses. Wow, three weddings in one summer! It seems like this is the year for weddings. About a dozen people I know got married this year, but I could only make it to a couple of them. You are right that the food is seriously one of the best parts. I personally find the open bar to be a nice perk, as well.
ReplyDeleteHey Jasmin, I am also a senior and my major is psychology. Psychology is so interesting to me. OH yes!! Anatomy was first freaky to me but I thought it was so amazing that we get to work with actual humans. Weddings are so much fun to go to from the ceremony to the party afterwards! Your dog is so adorable!
ReplyDeleteHi Jasmin,
ReplyDeleteI used to be premed and had to take a bunch of science classes. However, the thought of holding a human heart in my hand makes me want to vomit. That was a big reason why I am no longer a premed student.
Also, I got to go to my first open bar wedding this summer as a 21 year old. It was definitely of the most fun nights I've had in my life.
Hi Jasmin! It's so cool that you have paired psychology and biology. I'm a biology major, but I do not plan on taking anatomy. It looks like you're into some really cool things! You can never go wrong with sparkling water (My personal favorite is Topo Chico). I'm impressed that you can make it to two miles. I die when I try to run half a mile. Good luck the rest of the semester!
ReplyDeleteHello Jasmin, it is such an incredible experience to take anatomy and see the parts that make up our body. It is exciting that you are a senior here at the university! I am also a senior and I can say I am really looking forward to graduating. I also love watching The Office and Stranger Things! They are great shows. Good luck with the rest of your semester!
ReplyDeleteHi Jasmin! It is nice to meet you. I love weddings! My cousin also got married over the summer. I can't believe you have held a human heart; that is so cool. Podcasts are one of my favorite forms of entertainment/education, so I will definitely check Serial out. Your dog is adorable! He looks like he is really enjoying the sunshine.
ReplyDeleteHey Jasmin!
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome that you were able to hold a human heart! The office is possibly the best Netflix show there is and ever will be for sure. I for sure cannot run two miles without curling up and crying so kudos on that one, and frozen yogurt is certainly always a go to craving on cheat day! Have a great semester!
Hey Jasmin!
ReplyDeleteYou held a human heart!? After everyone hounded me about that show, I finally broke down and watched it and I was not disappointed! I used to be able to run like my life depended on it but not anymore! Frozen yogurt is a great snack for any time of day and any day of the week! Have a great semester!
Hi Jasmin! I got too hold a human heart too... in 5th grade lol. I also like Brooklyn Nine-Nine and want to get around to finally watching Stranger Things. It sounds super-interesting. On another note, Shadow looks adorable. Happy belated birthday to him. I hope you have a nice day as well and nice meeting you!
ReplyDeleteHi Jasmin! Oh wow, it must have been a really unique experience to hold a human heart in your hand. I can’t even imagine how it would have felt like. That’s really beyond incredible and I’m sure not many people would ever have that kind of unique experience. I’ve been to weddings before too, and they are fun! That’s amazing your uncle is expecting a baby boy! Also your dog Shadow is so cute! It’s nice to meet you Jasmin!
ReplyDeleteHi Jasmin! I gotta say, first things first, holding a human heart must have been such a surreal experience! I've held my tonsils after they were taken out but nothing as awesome as holding a heart that used to beat inside someone's chest!
ReplyDeleteMy cousin is also having a baby boy this fall. In fact he was just born on Friday! I hope your new cousin has a great arrival!
Hey Jasmin!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your introduction! I think it's so cool that you got to hold a human heart. I haven't meet a lot of people who say that they enjoyed anatomy, so it's awesome that it was one of your favorite class. Also, your dog Shadow is absolutely adorable! I hope your semester goes well and good luck!
